Why is Low Testosterone a Problem?
Low Testosterone, unlike menopause is rarely discussed. Low testosterone is a real issue impacting some men as they age. And, even though a man’s testosterone level will normally decreases with age, not all men require treatment. It is important to see a healthcare provider experienced in the treatment of Low T to determine what’s right for you.
There are sexual and non-sexual signs of low testosterone.
Sexual signs of Low Testosterone include:
-Low sex drive
-Poor erections (weaker and fewer)
-Wanting sex less often
Non sexual signs of Low Testosterone include:
-Increase in body fat
-Reduced muscle mass
-Anemia (low iron)
-Loss of calcium from bone
Depending on your symptoms and blood profile, we may first recommend lifestyle changes; getting more exercise, eating a nutritious healthy diet, losing weight, and managing stress.
Testosterone Replacement Therapy (TRT)
In the event that lifestyle changes fail to improve symptoms, the next option may be testosterone replacement therapy (TRT). The result of TRT will bring testosterone levels back to normal and help improve signs and symptoms of low testosterone.
Testosterone replacement therapy is available in a variety of forms.
- Gel applied topically to skin
- Skin patches
- Oral Tablet applied to gums
Do not attempt to treat Low T with over-the-counter supplements and herbal remedies. It is important that you leave the diagnosis and treatment of Low T to medical experts. The symptoms of Low T are synonymous with many other conditions – some life threatening. The only way to be certain you have Low T is through a thorough exam and blood work.
